Hmmm. [Oct. 3rd, 2010|11:25 am]

I think I might skip Yuletide this year.

This is a weird feeling.

But I am totally signing up for [ profile] yuletart!

Now the word is out... [Jan. 1st, 2010|01:27 pm]

I love Yuletide this year, because the works are already at Archive of Our Own, so I don't have to bookmark or fiddle around with my master list. Well, that's not the only reason I love Yuletide this year...

My main story was Drive, for the Speed Racer (2008) movie. Fortunately, [info]karose was around to beta, and [info]lindentreeisle took a second look. I knew I wouldn't get much for comments on this one, but the people who liked it seem to love it. And that, baby, is what Yuletide is all about.

My second Yuletide-length fic was Travel, a Petshop of Horrors story I tried to claim as a pinch hit the night Yahoo decided it hated [info]elynross-- so I wrote it as if it were my assignment, just in case it turned out to be. The recipient really seemed to like this one too, which made me super happy.

The most proper research I did this year was for a drabble, Shared Interests, about Nick Yemana from yes, Barney Miller. Look at what I found! Born Free and Equal is a book of photographs by Ansel Adams about the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII. It's pretty amazing, I'll probably make a second post about it later.

I would never have written Best. Mom. Ever. as a Yuletide story, because it's futurefic, and even in Futurama, I try to stay within the bounds of canon unless a writer has a specific wish that pretty much mirrors my id. But it was a Madness story, so I went a little crazy with speculation. :D

Maybe my favorite story is one that didn't get many comments (though the ones I got were good!): Comfort, a drabble in the Full Metal Panic universe.

And the last (but not least) story I posted was for a fandom I offered and still kind of wish I'd been assigned: Paul Simon's Graceland album. Fried Banana Sandwiches is based on the title track.

How you can tell it's the last few hours of Madness: No one on your flist has replied to anything, and you haven't made any comments in hours.

I said I could write that, didn't I? HAHAHAHAH HOSHIT.

I'll be fine. I do this every Yuletide.

Having said that, HOSHIT.

Also, I just added D. Gray-man to Archive of Our Own. I feel STRONG and POWERFUL.

First, THANK YOU! You are clearly an awesome person for wanting to write for my fandoms, because they too are AWESOME.

Pretty much, you can just listen to what I put on the request. I love gen, I love het, I love slash, I love mixing all of those together; I love humor and capers and snappy dialogue and serious takes, too. If you want to know what I like, my recs are in my memories; if you want to know what I read, it's conveniently located at my Dreamwidth account.

But if you want to know more about my fandoms and why I love them, the details are behind the cut

Yuletide and pimping~ [Sep. 21st, 2009|09:52 pm]

If you have a Threadless account, or even if you don't, check out this shirt!

Also, people are talking about the fandoms they are planning on nominating for Yuletide. Here are my current thoughts:

Little Mosque on the Prarie. It's a CBC show about a Muslim family and their adventures in rural Canada. It passes the Bechdel Test and the 'people of color' collolary in pretty much every episode. It's funny, sweet, and can talks about race and culture and Big Issues in interesting ways. Also, it's funny.

RH Plus. Hot Japanese vampires fight crime! Here, watch it on YouTube.

Chintsubu. Cute Japanese boys switch penises in tragic accident. Also hilarious. I linked to this when I did the icon meme.

Twin Peaks. I'm just rewatching this show and remembering all the reasons I love it. Creepy atmosphere! Bad mojo! Agent Cooper! Audrey. Totally Netflixable!

Pushing Daisies. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU, PUSHING DAISIES. If you don't know what this one is I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY TO YOU. (In fact, I do have things to say to you. Lots and lots of things, starting with GO WATCH IT NOW.)

Asterix the Gaul. As far as I can tell, this has never been nominated! This, as they say, is a crime. It is probably the best thing to ever come from France, including Voltaire and Catherine Deneuve.

Happy New Year, all! [Jan. 1st, 2009|11:39 am]

The Yuletide stories have authors now!

So now I can fess up, easily my favorite part, because it means all the work is done.

My first assignment was for [info]daegaer. I suspect I knew the odds were good, as I offered to write My Tiniest Fandom, Rh Plus. I was still thrilled and terrified to get her, though! This story is extra special because I rewrote it not one but three times. Only Connect was the final result.

Cut if you don't want to hear me whinging about this story. Or long detailed speculation on RH Plus. )

I tried to get a pinch hit, but was unsuccessful, so Unsinkable, in the Titanic movieverse, ended up being an extra story instead. Which is okay! I liked writing it, the recipient loved it, everyone was happy. At least I hope. This was the story where my recipient thought I knew her, which is pretty much the best compliment ever. (She seems lovely, too.) I should add that much of this is based on Molly Brown's real life after the Titanic, which is an utterly fascinating story in itself.

And on the day before Christmas, I was completely and utterly bored, so I ended up browsing the list at work. Easy to See was the result, a quick Legal Drug one-shot that I realized only after falling in love was [info]chomiji's prompt. I wish I'd had more time with this, actually, and might right a further sequel. I love Saiga and Kakei, and speculating on their history was very fun. Special thanks to [info]synergic, who was willing to beta this for me, if our schedules hadn't gotten in the way.

I still love Yuletide so! I hope you all enjoy what I've written if you haven't already read it, and what others have written.

Now to answer more emails!
